Song of the Sea showcases, celebrates and totally embraces all that is Depoe Bay.
Depoe Bay may be the most charming and quaint town on the Oregon coast. Built on solid basalt rock at the
very edge of the Pacific Ocean, it offers many unique natural attractions. It is home to the "World's Smallest
Navigable Harbor" where the Coast Guard maintains a station and is home for the charter fleet that plies the
Pacific waters in search of whales for watchers, and fish for deep sea fishermen-and women. Crossing the harbor
entrance is the bridge made famous in the movie "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest," starring Jack Nicholson.
The ocean heaves itself at the seawall that runs along the west side of Hwy 101, the Pacific Coast Highway. When
waves are high you can feel them in your feet. The basalt also features lava tubes that the waves blast through,
at times to a height of over 100 feet, to the delight of all.
The bay stretches out in front of you, offering spectacular views of waves crashing, boats entering and leaving
the harbor, and whales. Whales live in Depoe Bay year-round, underscoring Depoe Bay's claim to be "The Whale
Watching Capital" of the coast. In addition, the annual migrations add to the whale population, and are a very
popular attraction for whale fans.
The shops and restaurants of Depoe Bay that line the highway feature fascinating wares and warm customer service
from very friendly people. The smiles are real and the welcome is sincere.
Song of the Sea is uniquely
situated to take advantage of all that Depoe Bay has to offer. It is a second floor condo, built over the shops
and restaurants of "downtown" Depoe Bay, and from Song of the Sea and its deck you will have a sweeping view of
the bay and harbor entrance. You'll enjoy the bird's-eye view of all the activity along the street. The rhythm
and melody of Depoe Bay is the perfect accompaniment to the Song of the Sea. |

|
What can we say about the deck, except, "Wow!" From the deck at Song of the Sea
you overlook everything. You can watch the comings and goings of Depoe Bay visitors, all the while remaining
above it all. You have a sweeping view of the bay. Right across the highway are the spouting horns Depoe Bay
is famous for, where the waves cause water to shoot up to a height of 100 feet into the air. Look down the
street and you can see the Whale Watching Center and the Depoe Bay Bridge. In the bay, you can watch whales,
boats entering and leaving the harbor, and enjoy the entertainment as the Coast Guard does their practice
maneuvers in your "front yard." About two doors away is the Depoe Bay Chamber of Commerce, where they can
load you up with plenty to see and do for a long, long time.
At night (actually in Depoe Bay, after about 5 P.M.) everything quiets down and you have this wonderful ocean
view virtually to yourself. Don't forget, in your hometown you may have rush hours-in Depoe Bay they have
rush minutes. It's a pace and lifestyle you will love experiencing. |
